The members of the fellows bargaining committee (FBC) were elected by members of GLU-UE local 1105 who are paid through fellowships to serve as the official representatives of fellows at the University of Minnesota for negotiations between GLU-UE and university administration regarding fellows. The FBC’s goal is to get the best possible contract for fellows represented by GLU-UE. 

The Memorandum of Understanding signed on Oct. 28, 2024 established that bargaining for the inclusion of fellows would begin after the initial contract was finished. That contract was ratified on Jan. 21, 2025.

The University and GLU will begin by bargaining over which fellows meet the classification of a “Public Employee” according to Minnesota state law and are therefore eligible to be in the Union. Once it is determined which fellows are in the union, they will bargain over a contract that covers fellows, with the contract ratified on Jan 21, 2025 serving as a starting point.
